Camp Overview

Competition Math Summer Camp 2019

Presented by Orlando Science High School Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society

The purpose of the OSHS Competition Math Summer Camp is to introduce the students the world of competition math and the joy of mathematics. This is a unique opportunity for interested and talented students to improve their math skills during summer season. Students are guided and trained by expert faculty and Orlando Science high school math team members via utilizing national competitions in a fun and challenging environment. There will be two different camps and each camp will be 5 days long.

Camp Dates:

1st Camp: Monday, June 10th through Friday, June 14th.

2nd Camp: Monday, July 22nd through July 26th.

Both camps will take place at Orlando Science High School Technology campus. The camp is open for rising 5th through 8th graders. Students need to be qualified to participate in a certain course. Eligibility is determined either through an existing competition score or the selection test. Previous years’ MathCounts, AMC 8, or MathLeague results will be used for placement. If a student doesn’t have any score from these competitions, then he/she will be taking a placement test on the first day. After that, the student will be placed in an appropriate class.

During the camp, students will be provided with necessary background in lectures and trained with different types of problems to master various problem-solving techniques. The classes are problem solving-based, whose curriculum is aligned with prestigious national competitions. Lectures will be given, and problem-solving strategies will be taught in Number Theory, Algebra/Analysis, Geometry, and Combinatorics. The camp provides a motivational and challenging environment for students. Also, the camp requires campers to demonstrate teamwork skills and cooperation in social settings. Parents are asked to consider these when registering for camp.

Please ensure you read about the schedule and the course descriptions and choose the one you think most applicable. OSS reserves its rights to direct to the more appropriate course or deny enrollment if the requirements are not met.
